Bloodstone: A Guide to Its Green and Red Appearance

Compare the distribution of color

Bloodstone combines dark green tones with contrasting red or brown markings. Some pieces show small scattered spots; others have larger contrasting areas. A bracelet creates a sequence of these variations, while a pendant gives more space to one pattern. Neither arrangement is inherently the correct one: the choice is visual.

Personal symbolism

In contemporary crystal symbolism, bloodstone is associated with courage and perseverance. These are personal or cultural associations. Someone may choose a piece as a reminder of those values, without expecting the material to produce a physical or emotional effect.

Looking at a finished piece

Compare the amount and placement of contrasting spots. A piece with scattered small marks and one with a larger patch may have very different visual appeal.

Before choosing a piece

Read the stated material, dimensions and construction of the actual item. Keep the care directions for its setting, cord or other components as well as the stone. Store finished pieces so that they do not strike one another, and choose a stable location for decorative objects.
