Witch Hazel Extract: Choosing the Correct Product Format

Article image for Witch Hazel Extract

Witch Hazel Extract is an extract, not automatically a carrier oil.

The formula and its format

The witch hazel product in our collection is an alcohol-free botanical extract distilled from the witch hazel plant. Although it appears in the carrier-oil category, its extract format should be distinguished from a seed or kernel oil. That distinction matters when comparing ingredients or following a finished product’s directions.

Use and storage

Follow the finished product’s directions and permitted applications; a cosmetic product is not a food product. For skin use, observe patch-test guidance, avoid eyes and broken skin, and stop if irritation occurs. Keep the cap closed, use clean, dry tools and avoid adding water or other ingredients. Store as directed and retain expiry information. Keep different preparations labeled rather than transferring directions between formulas.
